MODERNIZATION OF THE POWER PLANT AT THE BARCELONA-EL PRAT AIRPORT (BARCELONA, SPAIN)

The project consists of the modernization of the existing CELT Electric Power Plant (Central Eléctrica Lado Tierra) at Barcelona-El Prat Airport.

The operations in the CELT focus on the plant’s building, which is composed of several areas:

  • Low level
  • Top floor
  • Services gallerys
  • Transformers facilities
  • Power generators facilities

The main actions consist of the supply, assembly, testing and commissioning, without affecting the airport’s normal operation, of:

  • 36 kV switchgears (76 units)
  • 24 kV switchgears (10 units)
  • Neutral Earthing reactors
  • Generator control system
  • Electrical control system
  • Integration of the new control systems in the SCADA system of the airport
  • Electrical swtichboards
  • Electrical ducts
  • Medium voltage lines (36 kV and 24 kV)
  • DC power system (48 Vdc)
  • Fire detection and extinction system
  • Ventilation installation
  • Lighting installation

The works also includes the disassembly and removal of obsolete equipment and the civil works required to achieve the new equipment distribution.

The project is carried out in several phases, previously agreed upon with the client, in such a way that the impact on airport’s operations is minimized.
